2010/2011: Proposed two storey Extension & Full Renovation (Bowmore, Islay)

The Project:

The property is located in the conservation village of Bowmore on Islay and is overlooking Lochindaal.

Prior to extensive upgrading programme the property was left derelict for number of years.

In 2010 Unicorn Architecture was commissioned to provide their professional services on the project by proposing a large extension to the back of the property and full upgrading programme to meet building Standards.

Previously the main access to the property was from the main road and it was proposed to create a new side access from the new extension to the back of the property.

Furthermore, it was proposed to locate the bedrooms on the ground floor and living room and a large kitchen on the first floor. This design approach also provided an opportunity to take an advantage of a spectacular view over Lochindaal.

The new extension would accommodate a large bedroom with en-suite on the ground floor and a Dining kitchen with a family bathroom on the first floor.

Existing section of the property was used as a two bedrooms on the ground floor and open plan large sitting area on the first floor.

After obtaining all necessary statutory approvals: the property was refurbished to a very high standard and currently is used as a self-catering holiday let accommodation.
